Have you ever wondered why it is necessary to drink enough water during the day? To begin, let’s talk about the human body. This is made up of 70% water or approximately ⅔ of body weight.
The brain is made up of 70% water, 80% blood, and 90% water in the lungs. The water is wonderful and essential to keep us alive and healthy. Thanks to it, nutrients are absorbed from the food we consume, transported through the bloodstream, reaching the cells; at the same time, it discards what our body does not need.
By what means is the water removed?
Water leaves our body by various means such as sweat, especially on hot days or when exercising; a little more than a liter through urine; utilizing stools and breathing.
How many liters should be consumed during the day?
This depends on several factors. If you are a person who consumes a lot of fruit and vegetables with a high water content, you will need less than a person who consumes dry foods.
The day’s activities also influence the amount of water. That is, if you practice sports every day, if you frequently walk outdoors, or if you have a job that demands physical activity (eg in the construction sector), your body will need much more water to compensate for the loss, than someone who has a more sedentary lifestyle. What is recommended is to drink between 1.5 and 2 liters preferably of water. If you do not like water very much, try drinking natural fruit water, lemonade or natural juices.
Do not forget that all liquid consumed during the day fits within the recommended range to stay hydrated. Just do not wait until you become thirsty because this is a sign that your body is starting to dehydrate.
What happens in our body when not enough water is consumed?
Lack of water can cause discomfort such as migraine, heartburn, arthritis, low blood pressure, among others.
Migraine:
One of the reasons why we have migraine is because there is an excess of waste in the body and these have not been expelled. Drinking more water will make it easier to evacuate.
Heartburn:
Caused by excess acid in the stomach, causes a burn in it. What is usually done to solve the problem is to take a tablet to relieve pain. Although it does take away the pain temporarily, this method is not effective to end the acidity permanently. Drinking enough water during the day helps reduce it naturally. eye! If it persists and is not taken care of, it can cause ulcers and even cancer of the pancreas or liver.
Arthritis:
Joint pains are indicators of lack of water. The cartilages of the bones must contain a lot of water so that they do not deteriorate due to the friction caused by the movement of joints.
Hypotension or low blood pressure:
Water plays a key role in maintaining normal blood pressure. When the body does not have enough water, it will give priority to the essential organs, taking the water from the blood flow. This causes the blood vessels to not fill up enough, causing a lower volume of blood in arteries which consequently creates hypotension. If you tire easily or feel weak, you may have low blood pressure.
